For nearly 350 years, Best Point Education & Behavioral Health has successfully transformed the lives of thousands of children at risk by constantly evolving to meet changing needs.
St. Aloysius Orphanage was founded in 1832, and The Children’s Home of Cincinnati in 1864. Both organizations began as orphanages for neglected, abandoned and orphaned children throughout Greater Cincinnati. In 2022, the two nonprofits integrated into one charitable and life-changing organization – named Best Point Education & Behavioral Health.
Our initial mission centered on saving children from the despair of neglect, abuse, and poverty.
After leaving behind the traditional custodial care of orphanages, St. Aloysius and The Children’s Home began new programs to enable most children to remain in their own homes while receiving services.
Responding to Changing Needs
After World War II, more efforts were focused its efforts on adoption as the agencies continued to adapt to the increasing need of intensive, specialized treatment for children with emotional and behavioral challenges. In the 1970s, both organizations converted their facilities from a home for dependent children to a residential treatment model. In its place, a less restrictive day program was designed to serve the same population of children. Complimentary services were put in place to provide families with additional support in home, school, and community settings.
